E-Invoices
An e-invoice is an invoice which is sent and received electronically. This can be done via email, the Internet, a CD or any other electronic medium. In other words, an e-invoice is an invoice which isn't paper based.
E-invoices can be divided into two categories:
- Standardized textfiles based on standards such as XML or EDIFACT. This type of e-invoice is easily interpreted by a computer but it is harder for us humans to understand. There are also different standards depending on country, line of business etc.
- Digitized images of invoices based on formats such as PDF. The greatest benefit with this type of e-invoice is simplicity. The sender sends an image of the invoice as an email attachment. The receiver can process the e-invoice using the same procedure as with regular, paper invoices.
