Fujitsu fi-4120C and fi-4220C scanners – Compression vs. quality of JPEG images created by FORMS and INVOICES

This information is of interest if you use the the Scan module to export JPEG images.

In the Scanner settings dialog there is a sliding Quality bar that you can use to adjust the image quality of grayscale and color images. Using this bar you select a value from 1 to 100. With most color scanners (not these Fujitsu models), this value translates directly to a value in the scanner, where 1 means the highest degree of compression and 100 means the best image quality.

Unfortunately, some Fujitsu scanners do not have a corresponding 1-100 scale. Therefore, the value specified by the Quality is translated to Fujitsu's own values:

  • 1-14 = "Download Custom Quality Table" (0 – does not work!)

  • 15-28 = "Extremely High Compression, Low Image Quality" (1)

  • 29-42 = "Very High Compression, Low Image Quality" (2)

  • 43-57 = "High Compression, Low Image Quality" (3)

  • 58-71 = "Medium Compression, Medium Image Quality" (4)

  • 72-85 = "Low Compression, High Image Quality" (5)

  • 86-99 = "Very Low Compression, High Image Quality" (6 – recommended)

  • 100 = "Extremely Low Compression, High Image Quality" (7)
